Bookshelf Support
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Need a person? Email office@streamsoft.rs and we reply within one business day. If something failed to scan, send the book’s title and a photo of the cover and the barcode — that is exactly what we need to fix it.
Getting started
- Sign in with Apple, Google or Facebook. There is no password to create.
- Choose a username — 3–20 characters, letters, numbers and underscores. Collaborators find you by it.
- On the Library tab, tap + to create your first shelf.
- Tap the round scan button at the bottom left and allow camera access.
Scanning
The barcode doesn’t fire
Hold the ISBN barcode — usually on the back cover, near the price — flat in the frame, in even light, about 15 cm from the lens. There is no button to press: detection is automatic. Glossy covers reflect, so tilt the book slightly away from the light rather than towards it.
The book has no barcode
Tap the shutter button and photograph the front cover instead. Bookshelf reads the title on-device and searches for matches. If nothing comes back it offers to scan the other side of the book, and finally falls back to manual entry, prefilled with whatever the scan did manage to read. Pre-ISBN books, book club editions and worn secondhand copies usually take this route.
The wrong edition was added
Open the book, tap Edit, and correct any field — title, author, publisher, year or cover. Barcodes identify a printing, and reissues sometimes share one.
Shelves and collaboration
A shelf is a collection of books: one per room, per box, or per reading year. Shelves can be grouped into locations and reordered by dragging.
To share one, open it, choose Collaborators, and invite someone by username. They receive the invitation in their Requests inbox — the icon at the top right of their Library — and can accept or decline. Roles are owner, admin and reader; a reader sees the shelf but cannot change it. Owners can change a role or remove a collaborator at any time from the same screen.
Bookshelf Pro
A free account holds up to 4 shelves, 30 books per shelf and 1 collaborator per shelf. Bookshelf Pro lifts every one of those caps and unlocks cloud cover recognition.
Restoring a purchase
New device, or reinstalled the app? Go to Settings → Restore purchases. Your subscription follows the Apple Account that bought it, so sign in with that one first.
Managing or cancelling
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us, so they are managed on your device: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Bookshelf. Cancelling there stops the next renewal and Pro stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. A free trial that is cancelled before its last day is not charged.
Refunds
Apple handles all App Store refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account that made the purchase. We cannot issue refunds ourselves, but tell us what went wrong and we will fix it.
Your account and your data
Bookshelf stores your shelves, books, notes and cover photos in the cloud so they sync across your devices. The camera is the only permission the app requires, and it is requested at your first scan. There is no tracking and no advertising.
To delete your account and its data: Settings → Account → Profile → Delete account. The full procedure, including deletion by email, is on the data deletion page.
Requirements
iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later. The app is available in English, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, and follows your system light or dark appearance.
